PNR Status Southern Railway
Southern Railway was formed through the merger of the three state railways namely Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway, the South Indian Railway, and the Mysore state railway on 14th April 1951.
Southern Railway's extends from Mangalore on the west coast and Kanniyakumari in the south to Renigunta in the North West and Gudur in the North East. Its present network extends over a large area of India's Southern Peninsula, covering the states of Tamilnadu, Kerala, Pondicherry, and a small portion of Andhra Pradesh. Chennai Central and Trivandrum Central are the most profitable stations under southern Railway Division. The most profitable route comprises Chennai Central- Arakkonam-Katpadi-Salem-Erode-Coimbotore Junction, Chennai
Egmore-Villupurum-Tiruchirapalli-Dindigul-Madurai-Tirunelveli-Nagercoil, Coimbotore Junction-Thrissur -Ernakulam Junction-Trivandrum Central, Mangalore Central-Calicut Shornur Junction.

Southern Railway provides various facilities for the passengers both at station and in trains. Cloakroom, Retiring rooms, dormitories are provided for the resting of passengers, luggage storage. Southern Railway also provides bed rolls for the benefit of passengers. Bed Rolls are supplied free of cost to passengers traveling by A.C. First, A.C.2-tier and A.C.3-tier passengers. Bed Rolls are supplied free of charge to all classes of Rajdhani Express except A.C. Chair Car Passengers. The Railway Board approved the creation of a new Railway Division with Salem as headquarters in 2005 in order to ensure better administrative control, to improve railway infrastructure, facilities and introduce better train services, thus gratifying the long felt needs of railway passengers in and around surrounding areas.
